Testanvisca nebbiolo d'Alba

HOW 'TESTANVISCA' WAS BORN

In 2012 my second son, Riccardo, was born, and clearly I couldn't help but dedicate a bottle to him as well. My choice fell on the Nebbiolo d’Alba – again a long-lived wine with an all- Piedmontese label: Testanvisca.
It’s a Piedmontese word, meaning someone who has a quick temper and a quick wit.

Riccardo has always been a fan of engines, and when the time came to design the labels I again asked Alice Lotti, the illustrator of Seitremenda, for a hand. I had her spend some time with us to find the inspiration for a drawing that could represent both Riccardo and our wine. Again, six different proposals were born, which I eventually decided to use without leaving out a single one: they all depict my son driving airplanes, tractors, cars, a forklift or a motorbike, or holding his favourite teddy bear.

This wine, too, comes in a box together with the Testanvisca board game and a die, the board showing all the steps leading to an important red wine, from the vineyard to the wine cellar. The graphic design is by Cristina Ciamporcero, who had already collaborated with us on Alta Langa. It is a way of sharing my passion for wine with my children, using what they do best: play.
